Jumping into business
As excited as she was to be home, Jennie missed exercising her professional side. When she saw Angela Rondinella posting on Facebook about her new Rodan + Fields business, she was immediately interested. “I didn’t really understand what she was talking about, but I was definitely in the market for anti-aging skincare. I had a lot of sun damage, spent too much time in tanning beds, and had two kids 19 months apart. I covered my dark spots with heavy makeup and was always looking for a better solution, so I thought it was hilarious when Angela reached out to me and complimented my skin! To me, it was a complete hot mess under a lot of makeup.”
Jennie became an Independent Consultant primarily so she could get her R+F products at a discount. She secretly launched her skincare business and kept her excitement under wraps. “Initially I wasn’t telling anybody, not even my mom — and we’re practically inseparable! When she found out she immediately recognized the Rodan + Fields name and was completely sold, purchasing basically every product we offer. My husband John was a bit harder to get on board. After doing his own research, though, he was even more inspired by Rodan + Fields than I was! It was really encouraging to have my two closest people excited about this decision.”
Building her community
After posting on social media, Jennie discovered her network was very receptive to her new business. She focused on reaching out to potential Preferred Customers and strove to be coachable with her team building. “When I started with R+F, I sent messages about the business and thought no one would ever actually join my team. I didn’t really think anybody would wind up as an Independent Consultant. But many of my contacts wanted to sign up in order to get their products at a discount, and that’s when I switched gears and my goals shifted. My third month in business I got a couple of new team members in the same week!”
Jennie found inspiration in her Upline leaders on Team Give — especially Becca O’Leary who provided meaningful encouragement that kept Jennie excited about her work. “It seemed like R+F was this incredible underground world I didn’t even know about before! I went to some local events in St. Louis and found a community there. I loved feeling welcome, and I was blown away by the support from the entire community. With their help, I was surprised to find that I was pretty good at training and motivating people, and that I enjoyed that work even more than selling products.”
Motivating moments
Jennie soon became more serious about entrepreneurship and wanted to take her business to the next level. “I feel like my background in marketing definitely gave me a leg up. I knew I could apply what I learned in corporate America, so I started having virtual events and really thinking outside the box. Attending Convention on my own was my big ‘aha’ moment. I realized I could turn my R+F business into a career for sure, and afterward, I felt even more motivated to work hard.” She put in 20 hours per week, treating her business like a business, determined to start making progress.
As her business grew, Jennie achieved new Milestones that increased her excitement even more. “I was happy with my monthly earnings early on, and everything Rodan + Fields did to help with training resources was brilliant. R+F incentive programs were a big influence on my business — Lead the Way in particular. I was all about the Milestones! I went on a trip to Napa, a leadership retreat to San Francisco, and then ran for Lexus with my Upline leaders. Angela Rondinella, Jen Tornabene and I became Lexus Achievers together in May 2017!” Jennie just kept going from there, hitting Elite V that month and RFX Circle in November. “I’ve never traveled across the ocean, but I’m doing those things through this Company. These are the experiences I always dreamed of. I have to pinch myself, looking around and realizing this is my life right now.”
A feeling of renewal
Over time, Jennie realized her new R+F business really helped ease the feelings of isolation she struggled with at home. “Before Rodan + Fields, I often felt lonely. It was hard to get out of the house with two children under two. Some days I didn’t even know if I would get to take a shower during the course of a day. I felt like I was going to lose my mind with so little adult interaction. I was considering going back to work, thinking maybe I wasn’t cut out to be a stay-at-home mom. But Rodan + Fields was the solution I was looking for: a way for me to connect with people, earn money, and have something for myself that I enjoyed — while being there to raise my children and make them my first priority.”
“My Rodan + Fields business really helped me not feel so isolated at home. I sometimes say it saved me and got me back to being a happier person. It also helped bolster my confidence! From the start, imposter syndrome has been a big challenge for me. I never thought I would find a ‘job’ I would love this much. I thought I would never turn into a successful business owner. But now, with Rodan + Fields, I really feel like I’ve made it! It’s mind-blowing. With R+F, I was finally excited to wake up every day! I felt excited to go out more, to participate in moms groups, and to network with people to share this opportunity. My business made me happy. It’s so fun for me, and I really needed that!”
The Rodan + Fields difference
From Jennie’s perspective, the Rodan + Fields journey has completely transformed her life. “This business was the best of both worlds for me, both as a mom and as a career woman. Financially, it’s helped John take a step back from his demanding career. We’ve relocated, we’ve got our kids in new schools, we bought our dream home, we’re driving around a Lexus, and we’re experiencing bucket list world travel. It’s crazy! I love supporting my family to really enjoy life. And it makes me feel amazing to know I’m showing my kids that women can work hard while being there for their family.”
Looking forward, Jennie is excited to continue dedicating her efforts to members of Team Drive and continuing to build her organizational volume. “But I also want to have that balance and never miss those important moments with the ones I love most. I sometimes overextend myself so I always have to put it in perspective. But still, I’m really just trying to do more and more things that move me outside my comfort zone. I’m really excited to be leading my first corporate event this year and speaking during a breakout session at Convention. Just jump in and don’t let fear hold you back, no matter your history or how you might feel about yourself in this moment. You’ve just got to jump in and fail forward!”
